Formosa Oolong
Producing oolong tea involves highly specialized skills in control of the withering, oxidation and firing. A slight variance in any of these processes, can give each variety a distinct aroma, flavor, color and finish.
The best Oolongs come from Taiwan (Formosa) where short-fired oolongs have been described to have a peach like character with a refreshing fruity herbaceous character and the long-fired oolongs take on bakey notes with rich amber liquids. Formosa Oolong belongs to the latter category.
Making oolong tea is considered precious art in Taiwan, one that requires many years of training. From nursing a seedling, planting, nourishing the bushes, to proper selection of the best plucking time, these cultivation skills are passed down from many generations as a legacy. It is believed that application of years of dedicated study and practice, combined with the unique character of the tea leaves only can provide the exceptional quality oolong teas that have made the island famous around the world.
