2017 First and Second Flush Teas
First Flush refers to the picking of the newest two leaves and a bud in the earliest spring growth of the plant, as early as February and often lasting through April. These early leaves are much more delicate and therefore render a lighter, floral and astringent in flavor.
Second Flush is picked as early as April and runs through May or June. Second Flush yields slightly larger leaves often with silver tips or leaf buds. Because the leaf growth during this period is much more rapid than the early spring growth, these leaves yield a stronger full-bodied yet smoother flavor.
